Sort an Excel review sheet by a chosen column

A reviewer may need records grouped in ascending order by a key column. Sorting changes row order and should be treated as a data operation.

Prepare the input

Inspect the sheet’s headers and related columns before choosing the sort key. Confirm the command’s current scope with help rather than guessing its treatment of complex layouts.

These examples use local sample filenames. Substitute your own paths and check jetformat excel sort --help against the installed version before running the task. Put paths containing spaces inside quotes.

Run the command

jetformat excel sort finance.xlsx --sheet Summary --column A --order asc -o finance-updated.xlsx

Choose the sheet, sort column, and direction explicitly. Check the dataset and header before sorting so the result still associates each record with the correct values.

Review before the next step

Compare complete records before and after sorting. Keys in the expected order are insufficient if related values no longer belong to the same record.

Read several rows before and after sorting and verify both order and row relationships.

Keep the workflow repeatable

Writing an Office document uses one credit per command. See the billing guide for the current rules.

Keep the input revision with the result so a later reviewer can reproduce the decision. For a write operation, choose a new output path first; use overwrite flags only when replacing a previously reviewed result is intentional.

See the excel sort options and examples for the command reference. Browse related excel commands when the next step requires a different operation.
