Remove an obsolete worksheet column deliberately

A reporting template can retain a column that is no longer needed. Removing it changes the grid rather than merely hiding it from view.

Confirm the column against the current header row and review references to its cells. Keep a copy in case a downstream consumer still expects the old layout.

A focused terminal workflow

jetformat excel remove-column finance.xlsx --sheet Summary --column C -o revised.xlsx

This removes the named column and changes the positions of following columns. Use a copy and identify dependent formulas before applying it.

Acceptance checks

Inspect adjacent columns, formulas, and exported data after deletion. Column positions shift, so a script using fixed letters may need to be updated as part of the workflow.

Read neighboring cells and inspect formulas after deletion; a structurally valid workbook can still contain wrong references.

Before repeating the operation

These examples use local sample filenames. Substitute your own paths and check jetformat excel remove-column --help against the installed version before running the task. Put paths containing spaces inside quotes.

Writing an Office document uses one credit per command. See the billing guide for the current rules.

Keep the input revision with the result so a later reviewer can reproduce the decision. For a write operation, choose a new output path first; use overwrite flags only when replacing a previously reviewed result is intentional.

See the excel remove-column options and examples for the command reference. Browse related excel commands when the next step requires a different operation.
