Rebuild an editable Word draft from PDF text

A text-based PDF may need an editable DOCX draft for revision. The conversion can provide a starting document instead of retyping every paragraph.

Use a PDF with an existing text layer and keep a copy for comparison. A scanned page without text requires a separate OCR workflow that this command does not provide.

A focused terminal workflow

jetformat pdf to-docx report.pdf -o report.docx

The to-docx command, also available as to-word, rebuilds editable DOCX content from the PDF text layer. It does not perform OCR on scanned pages.

Acceptance checks

Review reading order, simple tables, images, and paragraph boundaries. Treat the result as a reconstructed draft rather than a pixel-identical reproduction of the source layout.

Extract text from the DOCX and review tables, reading order, and layout in a document viewer.

Before repeating the operation

These examples use local sample filenames. Substitute your own paths and check jetformat pdf to-docx --help against the installed version before running the task. Put paths containing spaces inside quotes.

This operation uses page-based credits. Review the billing guide before processing a large document.

Keep the input revision with the result so a later reviewer can reproduce the decision. For a write operation, choose a new output path first; use overwrite flags only when replacing a previously reviewed result is intentional.

See the pdf to-docx options and examples for the command reference. Browse related pdf commands when the next step requires a different operation.
