Jetformat

Read a single Excel cell in a shell workflow

A status script may need one value from a workbook rather than a full export. Reading an explicit cell keeps the lookup focused and easy to compare with the source.

Decide what success means

Compare the returned value with the expected source record. A successful lookup confirms access to the cell, not the correctness of the business calculation behind it.

Prepare and run

Confirm the worksheet name and cell address. If the cell depends on formulas, understand whether the workbook’s stored result reflects the latest inputs.

These examples use local sample filenames. Substitute your own paths and check jetformat excel get --help against the installed version before running the task. Put paths containing spaces inside quotes.

jetformat excel get finance.xlsx --sheet Summary --cell B12

Use the exact worksheet name and a cell address such as B12. This read operation is useful for checking a value before and after an automated update.

Inspect the saved result

Compare the value and formula returned; a missing cached result may require recalc rather than another read.

Scope and repeatability

This is a free utility or read operation. It does not need a paid conversion to inspect the result.

Run jetformat excel get --help to compare options with your installed version.

See the excel command reference for the surrounding workflow.

Keep the input revision with the result so a later reviewer can reproduce the decision. For a write operation, choose a new output path first; use overwrite flags only when replacing a previously reviewed result is intentional.

See the excel get options and examples for the command reference. Browse related excel commands when the next step requires a different operation.
