Highlight a rectangle during a PDF review

A reviewer can mark a page region with a highlight annotation. Rectangle-based highlighting is useful when the target's position is already known.

Prepare the input

Inspect the page coordinates and choose a region that covers the intended words. A rectangle command does not automatically locate a semantic phrase.

These examples use local sample filenames. Substitute your own paths and check jetformat pdf highlight --help against the installed version before running the task. Put paths containing spaces inside quotes.

Run the command

jetformat pdf highlight book.pdf --page 1 --x 72 --y 72 --width 120 --height 16 -o hl.pdf

The command adds a yellow rectangle at explicit coordinates. It does not search for a word or calculate the bounding box of matching text.

Review before the next step

Review the saved annotation in the intended viewer. Highlighting is a review aid, not redaction, and the underlying text remains available.

Render the selected page and check that the rectangle marks the intended line without covering adjacent content.

Keep the workflow repeatable

This operation uses page-based credits. Review the billing guide before processing a large document.

Keep the input revision with the result so a later reviewer can reproduce the decision. For a write operation, choose a new output path first; use overwrite flags only when replacing a previously reviewed result is intentional.

See the pdf highlight options and examples for the command reference. Browse related pdf commands when the next step requires a different operation.
