Find PDF form field names before automation

A fillable PDF's visible labels can differ from its internal field names. Listing the fields provides the identifiers a filling workflow needs.

Decide what success means

Compare the inventory with required inputs and inspect field types. A field name alone does not tell you which values are valid for the form’s business rules.

Prepare and run

Use the exact form revision expected by the job. A redesigned form can retain familiar labels while changing its field structure.

These examples use local sample filenames. Substitute your own paths and check jetformat pdf fields --help against the installed version before running the task. Put paths containing spaces inside quotes.

jetformat pdf fields form.pdf

Read the field inventory before creating the data for pdf fill. A drawn line or box in a scanned form is not necessarily an interactive PDF field.

Inspect the saved result

Check exact field names and types; if the list is empty, do not invent field names from visual labels.

Scope and repeatability

This is a free utility or read operation. It does not need a paid conversion to inspect the result.

Run jetformat pdf fields --help to compare options with your installed version.

See the pdf command reference for the surrounding workflow.

Keep the input revision with the result so a later reviewer can reproduce the decision. For a write operation, choose a new output path first; use overwrite flags only when replacing a previously reviewed result is intentional.

See the pdf fields options and examples for the command reference. Browse related pdf commands when the next step requires a different operation.
